Network of HIV Positives in Sierra Leone

The National AIDS Secretariat in Sierra Leone

Formed in 2006, as a result of a Christian Aid initiative to facilitate a National Network , of HIV Positives in Sierra Leone, as prior to 2006, there were very few people who were openly HIV positive, as stigma levels were so high.

Our Goal

NETHIPS is working towards a Sierra-Leone in which all people living with HIV and AIDS (PLHIV) and orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) shall enjoy equal rights and opportunities and live productive and meaningful lives.

HIV in Sierra Leone

Official statistics reveal that there are close to 50,000 Sierra Leoneans living with HIV but it is very doubtful if 10,000 of them have had an HIV test. Presently, less than 5,000 PLHIVs are registered members of support groups nationwide.
